August 1st 2015 marked the first day of my daughters 2nd grade year. We were told that her teacher was going to be Mrs. Rojas a teacher of 13 years and new to our school. At first my daughter was not too excited to start the new year but that quickly changed. I was told Mrs. Rojas was a STEAM teacher ...I had no idea what that meant or how it would impact my expectations from here on out concerning the teaching standards of my children. We quickly realized how amazing that school year would be for our daughter Kayla. Mrs. Rojas has a love for her students or "her babies" as she affectionately calls them that I haven't seen in years. Her hands on out of the box way of teaching had my daughter hooked. She could not wait to get up and go to school the next day to see what they would be learning next. I can actually name standards and how they impact Kayla now. My child learned about prototypes, design, construction, plants, animals and all while tying it all in to math, reading, writing, and most importantly science flawlessly. I am now a HUGE advocate for STEAM and science based instruction because of Mrs. Rojas. My daughter has learned so much this past year and enjoyed every minute of it. She looks at the world differently now...not just asking why, what, and how but actually taking the time to think and come up with a solution or an answer for herself. Mrs. Rojas goes above and beyond to teach not just her students but their parents and her colleagues alike.I don't know what we will do without her.

Since STEAM has been incorporated into Skyler's daily 2nd grade curriculum, her individual district test scores have improved and her creativity with using recyclable material has increased her artistic abilities. Skyler is enthusiastic about attending school every day! She is learning innovative ways to approach situations and always wants to bring in any recyclable materials she encounters to create new, reusable goods. As a parent, I am very grateful for the way STEAM keeps my daughter engaged in learning.

I was frustrated and desperately seeking answers, techniques and a possible resolution to help educate mychild. I literally started to think we were an anomaly because no one seemed to know how to help us. Then I stumbled across one of Kierra post . A mom was sharing her frustrations and I identified with her struggles.

I am celebrating these words this evening because they are apart of my experience today!

I have to first acknowledge Kierra Rojas because she was THE key player in ensuring that I experienced this success. She pointed me in the right direction. She gave me excellent talking points and an amazing checklist. I was totally prepared! She helped me know what to listen for and what to fight for. She SUPPORTED me emotionally and then she followed up! She is an Amazing parent advocate! How can I ever thank you!

Kierra is amazing at what she does!! We have been having trouble with my oldest son hitting in his kindergarten class. It felt like we were getting notes/emails everyday regarding his behaviors. And it felt as if we were not on the same page as the school regarding what to do next. It all seemed strange to us because he never really had issues hitting in Pre-K. I contacted Kierra for help as I did not know what else to do. Her guidance put me on the same playing field as his school administrators and helped me realize which questions to ask. I also gained a better understanding of what was causing my child’s problem and why the school chose certain methods to help him. I think parents often don’t even know what to ask for from the schools when attempting to get help for their child. It is relieving to have someone like Kierra in your corner as an advocate for your child’s education and fair treatment. She deserves a 5-Star rating ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
