Do you have a child struggling in math? A child who "gets it" but "hates it"? A child who needs hands on practice? ME TOO!!! You are NOT alone! In fact, you are the "norm" and so is your child. Here are some ways to help a struggling learner, help find the FUN in math and provide hands on practice...ALL with an egg carton! Can you think of any more??? Share your ideas below! SHARING IS CARING!
You'll need:
Egg cartons (several because they will wear down)
Legos, beads, counting cubes, coins, bells, shapes, pom poms/circles, patterns , playdoh ( if you don't have these things...click on the item for a template of the paper version)
Flash cards multiplication addition subtraction division (click the word for the flash card template)
Here is the deal:
To practice addition you put 2 ( or more for older kids wanting to add double digits) objects (beads, bells, counting cubes, etc.) in the carton. Close the lid. Shake it up. The 2 numbers the objects land in, are the two (or more) numbers they will add.

To use the addition flash cards:
Look at the equation (problem) on the flash card.
(Example 2 + 3 = ___) . Get 2 objects and place it in the spot with the the 2. Get 3 counters and place them in the spot with the 3. Physically touch each object to find the total.

To use it to subtract
Put 2 ( or more for older kids wanting to subtract double digits) objects (beads, bells, counting cubes, etc.) in the carton. Close the lid. Shake it up. The 2 numbers the objects land in, are the two (or more) numbers they will subtract (start with the bigger number).
~OR~
Practice shape recognition

~OR~
Practice written form and amount. ( Example 2 ** , 3 ***, etc.)

~OR~
Practice patterns by starting a pattern and intentionally leaving blank spaces for your child to fill in.
