New Math or a New Nightmare?

Do you have a child in 3rd grade and above? They are now expected to complete math tasks using strategies that are completely foreign to many of us. So...ask the teacher to send home a copy of the strategies. You rewrite them on chart paper (available at Walmart ). BOTH YOU AND YOUR CHILD work together to complete a math problem using 2 strategies each day. This will help you become familiar with the strategy and will help your child master the strategy. Leave the charts up (Yes your walls will be ugly) around your house. The more they see the strategies the more fluent they will be in using them.
